Dry feet 365 days a year!
Modern secure sealing techniques mean that today’s basements are used to full advantage as hobby or fitness rooms, work or guest rooms. They do require basement walls and floors to be kept dry by seamless seals against moisture. The consequences of water penetration or capillary dampness by means of vapour permeability are high air moisture content, mould formation and a musty cellar smell. Areas in contact with the ground are top of the statistics for structural damage. If there is not an airtight seal this can also lead to the penetration of carcinogenic radon gas into the building. The presence and concentration can be measured and locally removed.
